April Ross

April Ross has won more than one medal at the Olympics. She is among a few women beach volleyball athletes to have achieved this feat. She is set to compete in Tokyo for her 3rd Olympic medal alongside Alix Klineman, who is a first time Olympian. Ross is determined to earn more than her initial Olympic medal. The next time she has the chance at age 39. Her confidence is high, however. Ross on NBC Boston, said that If the team is performing very well, or even at all, it could be able to win gold. "I'm trying to also try a little luck." Ross was born in 1982 in Costa Mesa California where she lived with her parents and sister. Ross went on to play in many sports in Newport Harbor High School. She was a basketball player and also ran the track as well as her indoor volleyball achievements as a prep athlete. Although she was a pro in indoor volleyball however, it was evident that her abilities were higher than average. In her own biography her high school days, she was a volleyball player as an outside hitter (middle blocker) and the setter (outside blocker). Her achievements were rewarded when she was named 1999 Gatorade's Circle Of Champions National Player of the Year. Also, she won the 2000 Orange County Athlete of the Award for volleyball. Although Ross Klineman and Ross have been doing their thing since 2017, the former had already been a major participant on the beaches prior to their team. In reality, she was a winner of multiple major tournaments with two different partners, one of whom is the volleyball legend. For six years from 2007 to 2013 she teamed with Jennifer Kessy who more recently served as her and Klineman's coach. Ross, the teammate of Kessy's, who was the winner of the world championship alongside Kessy in 2009, also was significant on the an international level. They won a Silver Medal at the 2012 Olympic Games held in London. Misty Maytreanor (Jennings) and Misty Maytreanor clinched gold ahead of them. It was fate that had them. Ross was Walsh Jennings' new partner after May-Treanor's retirement. The duo went on to earn the beach volleyball bronze in the Rio Olympics in 2016. Ross began her college career with the USC Trojans after high school. It was a long time before Ross hit the beach and became a professional. The time she spent at USC was impressive. The year 2000 was her freshman year. saw her earn the Pac-10 and NCAA Freshman of the Year awards and be an All-American. Additionally, she assisted her Trojans get to the Final Four. Her sophomore year was the time she experienced a devastating personal setback, but she was able to be a second All-American. In her last two seasons as a member of the Trojans in the program the team was led to success by winning two consecutive national championships. In 2003-04, Ross was named the top female volleyball player on the collegiate scene in the United States by the Honda Sports Award. Ross studied at USC in International Relations. Unfortunately, Ross mother Margie did not get to see Ross rise to the top levels of beach volleyball fame. Ross lost the breast cancer that she battled in 2001. Ross was then a sophomore. But she still keeps her parents close to her the heart. Margie is a source of inspiration throughout her life, as well as on the beaches.
